Speeding up WordPress
How I made one of my sites faster than 87% of all sites on the internet – and how you can do the same!
Speed counts.
Google takes it into account.
But – more importantly – so do site visitors.
If waiting for your website to load is like watching paint dry, your visitors won’t stay. They’ll click the back button, never to return.
If your website is based on WordPress, that can be a problem.
Don’t get me wrong – WordPress is great for building sites.
I use it for almost every site I make.
But, out of the box, it’s sluggish.
The problem is that it pieces together the pages you see from bits and bobs that it stores in a myriad of different places.
And that all takes time.
A lot of time.
It’s no secret that most WordPress sites are sluggish.
Because their owners don’t know any better.
And the problem gets worse.
Because if your site gets too many people click the back button too fast, Google will gradually drop you in the search engine rankings.
So you’ll get even less visitors.
If you’re not careful, it’s a downward spiral.
The good news is that you can make a few simple tweaks to WordPress and get it up to full speed.
I’ve done those tweaks on my website and taken it so that it’s faster than 87% of all other sites on the web – no mean feat given that I’m using a standard hosting account.
Of course, your results may vary. I’ve just tried it on a Hostgator account and the site improved but nowhere near as much. But at least you’ll know what to do to help counter the slow speeds that Hostgator seems to be delivering at the moment.
What will you get?
In all, there are 5 videos.
I’ll cover why WordPress needs these tweaks – it’s useful to know the idea behind things.
I’ll also explain what the tweaks involve.
You’ve almost certainly guessed that one of the tweaks is installing a cache plugin.
Before I released this WSO, I had a favourite cache that I installed by default. Mainly because that’s what I’d always done.
Then I did some research and found one that works even better and is easier to tweak and get set up so that it does its job properly.
The other plugin works a long way behind the scenes.
It deals with all the mess that computers leave around – beneath the surface they make teenagers look like models of tidiness.
When you follow the tips in these videos, you’ll almost certainly experience the same kind of results I got.
Even if you’re on shared hosting.
The speed difference will show through:
- Your visitors will be more inclined to hang around and explore your site
- Google will notice that and could even reward you by putting your site higher up the search results, giving you more visitors
All you need to do is click the buy button!
You’ll be taken directly to the download page – there are no upsells or OTOs in the way.
