When it comes to internet marketing strategies, there are some that work near enough all the time.
Most of them will sound obvious but that doesn’t mean you’re doing them – it’s often the simplest internet marketing strategies that work best yet we tend to overlook them or ignore them in favour of some new “it’s bound to work with no effort” shiny penny idea.
1. Create regular content that your target audience actually want
That’s probably the biggest strategy you could follow and if you did just that, you’d almost certainly beat the majority of your competition.
The web thrives on content – the search engines are hungry for it because the more content they have, the more they can drill down on the results and give people precisely what they’re looking for.
Regular means different things to different people.
It could be daily (that’s great), it could be weekly (that’s still good) or it could be less often.
Get into a routine and keep as close as you can to it.
Content also means different things to different people but generally video or written content is good. Both are even better as they cater for different people.
2. Build up your email contact list
Whether the product you are marketing is a frequent purchase or it’s bought only once in a blue moon, it’s worth building a list.
Keep in touch with them on a regular basis – figure out the frequency by testing it. For a lot of lists and markets, daily is good and results in more sales because there are more opportunities for people to buy.
That applies even if you personally think that daily emails are too often!
What will happen is that the people who join your list will do one of several things:
- They’ll leave because it no longer meets their needs
- They’ll read and react to some of your emails
- They’ll ignore you but not unsubscribe
The people you’re interested in are the ones who engage with you.
Keep your emails interesting and informative – even if they’re selly – and let your voice come through so that people know you’re a real person not some faceless corporation who claims you’re important to them and then demonstrates that they’re plainly not because they can’t employ an extra few minimum wage people to answer your calls or emails.
Personality will set you apart!
3. Keep up with social media
Whether or not you think it’s important, social media sites like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn (and maybe even Google+) are where your market goes.
Interact with people on social media – respond to messages (Twitter is often used as a rapid response tool), put up interesting content, ideally things that have the potential to get shared with other people.
Build up your audience – that’s things like followers, likes, etc.
And don’t be afraid to stalk your audience!
Facebook offers you the option of adding a tracking pixel to your website that you can then use to re-target people who’ve visited you and keep your brand top of mind.
It’s easy to do – Facebook want your advertising money so they’re reasonably helpful – and it works.
You may not be as precise as Amazon but you can still keep your website and your brand higher up in people’s minds without spending a fortune.
