Getting More Sales: Using Postcards for Marketing

Share

Postcard marketing is something that should be done more often.

Postcards evoke a holiday or special occasion feel and there’s the extra advantage that there’s no envelope to open, so your message is instantly seen.

They’re also cheap – there are services here in the UK that will print and mail your postcard design in small quantities for less than the cost of a 2nd class stamp.

Direct mail has been neglected in recent years. You’ll know that because your door step is almost certainly less cluttered and you may even have days where you get no post.

Yet the sound of mail dropping through the letter box still brings a tingle of excitement to a lot of people!

Postcard design should be simple:

  • A colourful image
  • A simple headline
  • A call to action – ask people to phone you or go to your website if they prefer
  • The reverse side obviously needs an address and some form of short letter. This can be often be printed in a handwriting style font for added impact.

If you have a list of potential customers or existing ones, sending them a postcard can be a very simple way to get their interest.

You could use it to announce a special event such as a sale or a customers-only evening to add to the overall impact.

The cost is cheap – almost certainly less than you’re paying Google if you use their Adwords system – and it’s highly unlikely that you’ll be competing with 20 other people whereas that’s normal in online advertising.

This video explains more about how you can use postcard advertising in your business:

It really is worth getting the bug and starting to send postcards to customers and potential customers!
