Internet Marketing: Can You Please Everyone? Should You Even Try To?

There’s an old saying that you can’t please all the people all the time. And that holds especially true in internet marketing.

I recently promoted a product that had researched lots and lots of different free graphic resources.

It’s a PDF report that’s a list of all sorts of free graphic related items – stock images, image editing software, icons and more.

Nothing you couldn’t find yourself – but it would take hours of research to do that – so buying it is a trade-off between your time and the very low dollar price. Basically if you value your time at much more than a teenager would get for a paper round (assuming those still exist in this digital age) then it’s a bargain.

Internet Marketing in 2016 and Beyond

Internet marketing is an ever changing target but there are some things that stay reasonably constant whilst others (usually the things that work “fast”) come and go.

A friend of mine asked me on Skype what my plans were for this coming year and this is a (much) longer version of that reply.

As you read this, keep in mind that we’re all different and that what works for me may or may not work for you.

With that in mind, I’ll start with some of the things I won’t be doing this year. Not necessarily because they don’t work but because my skill-set doesn’t fit with them.

How to Get Free Traffic to Your Website

In reality, website traffic is almost never free. You either pay directly for the click or you spend some time doing something that generates clicks. But – ignoring the fact that it costs you time to get free traffic – I’m going to talk about some methods that can help generate free traffic to your website.

Usually that involves some kind of content that includes a link (directly or indirectly) to your website.

Depending on the type of link and the site it’s placed on, the free traffic may be almost instant or it may take a while to work its way through the system.

The amount of traffic you get – and the quality of that traffic – will vary considerably.

As a general rule, large quantities of traffic are usually relatively untargeted and the clicks to your site are generally worth less than fewer (but better targeted) clicks.

Can You Judge the Quality by the Price in Internet Marketing?

In the real (physical goods) world, it’s fairly easy to use price as a reasonable indication of quality. The relationship between the two doesn’t always hold but it works most of the time and it’s one of the short cuts that Robert Cialdini mentions in his book Influence.

But on the online world – and maybe especially so in the internet marketing niche – can you use price to judge the quality of the product you’re about to buy?

Should you keep your finger on the internet marketing pulse?

Like most things, internet marketing goes in waves.

A few years ago, it was made-for-Adsense sites.

Then the commission on those faded and other things – “sniper” sites, article marketing, that kind of thing – came along.

After that, Digg and other social bookmarking sites seemed to swamp the search results.

Then Web 2.0 sites (remember Squidoo before it got sold?)

Now it’s things like YouTube videos, CPA (cost per action), Google Hangouts (video in another guise), Bing ads and a few other things.

How to Create Good Quality Website Content Fast

It seems you can never have enough website content – Google’s appetite for content is voracious and even gigantic sites like Wikipedia can’t satisfy every single search that’s made.

Spam content – written in places across the globe that you’d be hard pressed to find in an atlas or worse still “written” by spinning software – doesn’t cut it.

Even if it passes Google’s automated quality checks (and that’s unlikely) it won’t get past human visitors long enough for them to stay and try to interpret it. Which means they’ll hit the back button and that will get interpreted as a negative indication.

So how can you create good quality website content fast?
